font-size: 18pt;\">[Add May\/2017]<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitacity.com\/\">Visit a City<\/a> <\/span>&#8212; Create your own travel guide.\u00a0 This interactive website does a fairly good job in suggestions sites for many popular cities.\u00a0 There are some great features such as displaying sites on a Google Map but the best is the estimated time you need for a site.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nomadicmatt.com\/travel-blogs\/backpacking-europe-guide\/\">Nomadic Matt&#8217;s step-by-step guide to backpacking Europe<\/a><\/span> &#8212;<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> Nomadic Matt is well known in the travel community and this is an impressive guide because I think he covers all the things you need to know.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Comic Sans MS', sans-serif; Europe<\/a> &#8212; As the name implies, Rick specializes in Europe.\u00a0 In addition to some good planning tools, you can download some free self-guided walking tours here.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/\">Lonely Planet<\/a> &#8212; Although you won&#8217;t get the full content via its website, there are very few countries that Lonely Planet hasn&#8217;t covered. \u00a0Check YouTube for some of their shorter content.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fodors.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fodor&#8217;s Travel<\/a> &#8212; some good resources courtesy with a decent <a href=\"https:\/\/saviowong.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/fodors_logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-249 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/saviowong.com\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/fodors_logo.png\" alt=\"fodors_logo\" width=\"173\" height=\"67\" \/><\/a>discussion forum.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.frommers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frommer&#8217;s Travel Guides<\/a> &#8212; The founder Arthur Frommer and his daughter Pauline just bought Frommer&#8217;s Travel Guides back from Google.\u00a0 In his 80s now, Arthur is still travelling and blogging.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.towd.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tourism Offices Worldwide Directory <\/a>&#8212; an easy to search function at this site.\u00a0 If you can&#8217;t find the official website here, just Google it.\u00a0 If you plan ahead, you can often ask for printed material to be sent to you.\u00a0 However, many of them have switched to digital content only.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">If the above guides don&#8217;t meet your needs, check out the article: <a href=\"http:\/\/searchengineland.com\/the-thirteen-best-online-travel-guides-47074\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Thirteen Best Online Travel Guides<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontplugin_fontid_227_digistrip\">Printed Guides<\/span>: <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">When I travel, I still prefer to have a paper copy guidebook.\u00a0 I have used all of the following and they are all good.\u00a0 They are all available as eBook format as well.\u00a0 In fact, you an purchase a chapter or two rather than the entire book.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><em>Lonely Planet<\/em> &#8212; It&#8217;s hard to think of a country that <em>Lonely Planet<\/em> hasn&#8217;t covered.\u00a0 In fact, they came out with a guide for Afghanistan a few years ago!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><em>Rick Steves&#8217; Guide to &#8230;.<\/em> &#8212; Rick covers Europe extensively.\u00a0 I found his self-guided tours fairly easy to use.\u00a0 He also recommends smaller independent hotels in great locations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><em>EyeWitness Guides<\/em> &#8212; &#8212; A popular series for younger crowd. \u00a0It is good to know where the hipsters hang out in case you want to join or avoid them.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"fontplugin_fontid_227_digistrip\">Podcasts<\/span>:<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> I listen to the following three free programs regularly.\u00a0 Since both Amateur Traveler and Rick Steves&#8217; Travel have been &#8216;on the air&#8217; for awhile, it has a fairly extensive archives.\u00a0 This Week in Travel covers the latest travel news and is hosted by three\u00a0knowledgeable hosts:\u00a0Gary Arndt,\u00a0 Chris Christensen, and Jen Leo.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/amateurtraveler.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amateur Traveler<\/a> &#8212; Chris Christensen is the host of this weekly podcast and episode 394 was just released a few days ago (Nov. 8, 2013).\u00a0 His guests usually know quite a bit about the place and I found the information current and informative.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thisweekintravel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This Week in Travel<\/a> &#8212;
